University of Idaho Library Special Collections and Archives remembers Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus. Governor Andrus made frequent trips to the UI campus in his terms as governor from 1971-1977 and again from 1987-1995. Here, he plants a tree at the dedication of the Menard Law School Building in 1974. (PG 1-162-19)
Governor Andrus spoke at the 1976 UI Commencement ceremony and received an honorary doctorate from the university at the time. (PG 2-109-201b)
In addition to serving four total terms as governor, making him Idaho’s longest-serving governor, Andrus was appointed as Department of the Interior Secretary by President Jimmy Carter serving in that position from 1977 to 1981.
