George Cap Horton

Graduate Manager

This month U of I Library Special Collections and Archives received a donation of University of Idaho memorabilia and historic material. The George E. “Cap” Horton collection features papers and items kept by Horton during his time as the university’s Graduate Manger.

George Elmer Horton was born on September 4, 1879 near Garfield, Washington. He attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1906. While at the university he participated in football and track and field. Horton later became U of I’s Graduate Manager, a role he was in for about fourteen years (1925 to 1939). He also served as secretary-treasurer and manager of the Idaho Memorial association which had sponsored the building of the Memorial Gym. George E. Horton died on May 26, 1949.
