To honor this year’s theme of “Once Upon a Homecoming,” here is a montage to reminisce or see anew the many faces of Joe Vandal.
1924: The first rendition of Joe Vandal appears in the 1924 Gem of the Mountains yearbook, as well as this statue created by student and yearbook editor Peter Paul Drus.
1940: Joe appears on the cover of the Gem of the Mountains, looking a bit more grown-up but still has plenty of boyish charm.
1956: Joe takes on a grumpy-old-man look, as seen on the back of this football schedule.
1969: By the late ‘60’s, Joe continues the grumpy look, but also branches out into the high fashion of neon lighting.
Today: Joe Vandal is now a lovable, friendly college character. Go Vandals!
